Education: NSSF Competition

“NEGRO SPIRITUAL” SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION

The “Negro Spiritual” Scholarship Foundation sponsors a vocal competition for sacred music performed by the solo voice in characteristic Negro spiritual style. High school students in 11th or 12th grade level from the state of Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi or Alabama who are of Afro-ethnic descent may enter the regional MidSouth District vocal competition. Students who enter must work with a voice teacher to learn a new work written for the competition and to meet the high vocal standards of the competition. Winners claim the coveted GRADY-RAYAM PRIZE in Sacred Music, a college tuition assistance grant for $3,000. The competition is held at LeMoyne Owen College. For more information and to apply for the competition, visit the "Negro Spiritual" Scholarship Foundation website.
