Our 2016-17 Artists in Residence
Opera Memphis' Artist-in-Residence program is established in partnership with the University of Memphis Artist Diploma Program.
Brad Baron likes to do it all, balancing many different theatrical disciplines.
As a singer and actor, he is as equally at home in opera and operetta as he is in musicals and plays. Stage credits include: Artie (The House of Blue Leaves); Bedroň (Veselohra na Mostě); Don Pedro (Béatrice et Bénédict); Don Quixote (Man of La Mancha); Franz-Fritz (Flammentangel Kabarett, premiere); Fred Graham (Kiss Me, Kate); Jeff Douglas (Brigadoon); Leporello (Don Giovanni); The Soldier (Once Upon the Wind); Sweeney Todd (Sweeney Todd); Whitelaw Savory (Kurt Weill’s One Touch of Venus); and Wilfred Shadbolt (The Yeomen of the Guard). He has appeared on stages with Bronx Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, LSU Opera Theatre, Ohio Light Opera, Opera Louisiane, operamission, The Princeton Triangle Club, The Secret Opera, and more. He has also lent his voice to professional recordings like Albany Records’ recording of Blossom Time as Moritz von Schwind.
As a writer and director, he recently directed his play Last Ditch Playlist at Dixon Place. He has contributed works to the New Jersey One Minute Play Festival (#1MPF) and his one acts Homochondria and Queer Assumptions were mounted in the Rainbow Festival with the La Strada Ensemble Theater. While at Princeton University, he re-imagined Sophocles’ Oedipus plays in an original drama In the Waste: A Theban Cycle.
He maintains a very active social media presence. Namely, he is the founder of QueerForceX, a YouTube Gaming Channel dedicated to nerds and “gaymers” everywhere. Barihunks also awarded him “Best TwitterDiscovery” of 2015.
Brad is a Masters of Music recipient from Louisiana State University and a graduate of Princeton University.
