How it works

Half plan, half surprise.

During September there are many small performances — often more than one a day, each somewhere new. Most are on the calendar so you can plan around them. The rest are left off on purpose, so opera can find you when you least expect it.

Roughly two-thirds

Announced performances

About two-thirds of the month is published in advance on our September events calendar — what, where, and roughly when. Plan your route, bring the family, and add the ones you love to your own calendar.

Interested in us performing in your neighborhood? Let us know! We are always looking for new partners.

Roughly one-third

Surprise pop-ups

The rest are intentionally unannounced — meant to be stumbled upon. Even some “announced” stops (say, “we’ll be in Cooper-Young”) skip the exact time and spot, so it still feels like a discovery. Because who wants to live in a city without random acts of opera erupting from time to time?
