In 19th-century London, Benjamin Barker returns from fifteen years of wrongful imprisonment to find that the corrupt Judge Turpin who destroyed his family still walks free. Taking the name Sweeney Todd, he reclaims his barbershop above the pie shop of the resourceful Mrs. Lovett — and a plan for revenge takes shape. Dark, funny, and relentlessly theatrical, Sweeney Todd is one of the landmark works of the American musical stage, with a score Sondheim himself considered his most operatic.
