The world premiere of Pretty Little Room, a new chamber opera by Memphis composer Robert G. Patterson and librettist Jerre Dye, brings to the stage the true 1892 story of Alice Mitchell and Freda Ward. Directed by Joy Brooke Fairfield and Ned Canty and conducted by Micah Gleason, the opera premieres at Crosstown Theater, returning this consequential Memphis story to its city of origin in operatic form. A decade in the making, the work traces its roots to the 2018 Opera 901 festival and an original 2017 commission supported by Jeanie Mercer and Breen Bland, and stands as one of the most significant world premieres in Opera Memphis’s contemporary history.
